One to One work can be so rewarding...
Currently in New Zealand some individuals have what is called Individualised Funding of Care, which means they manage or oversee their own support needs and hire and recruit staff.
When you work for an individual in their home, you have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life—and develop a close, long-lasting relationship.
People who work for individuals are known by different titles. They include caregiver, home help, support worker, direct support professional, and registered nursing assistant.
The biggest difference between working for an agency and working directly for an individual is that when you work for an individual, that person is your employer. When you work for an agency, the agency is your employer.
When you work directly for an individual, that person (or his/her family) will set the terms of your employment, including your responsibilities, hours of work, and pay. You, of course, will reach agreement on these important matters before you start work.
