Changes to Individualised Funding

Individualised Funding Scheme Expansion Programme - Background

The Individualised Funding Scheme (IF) established by the Ministry of Health 2004 enables people with physical, intellectual or sensory impairment to directly manage the resources they are allocated for disability support.  Entry to the scheme is following an assessment and referred by a needs assessment and service co-ordination (NASC) organisation.

As a result of a review of IF completed in 2008, and endorsed by the Government response to report of the Social Services Select Committee on it inquiry in to the quality of care and services provision for people with disabilities (2009).  The Ministry is now working to:
  • Extended eligbility for individualised funding to more disabled people who may not fit existing criteria
  • Increase the number of providers who wish to offer IF
  • The Ministry has committed to expanding IF by 30 May 2010
