Total Mobility Scheme

Total Mobility (Subsidised Taxi Fares)

The Total Mobility scheme provides taxi vouchers to people who find it difficult to use public transport e.g. getting to and travelling on a bus or other public transport due to a mobility, sensory, psychiatric or intellectual disability.

To be eligible your disability must be expected to last for 6 months or more and everyone wanting to use the scheme must have an assessment to check if they qualify.

Once assessed as eligible you will be given a photo identification card and a book of vouchers which provide a discount off the regular taxi fare of (usually) 50%, the subsidy may vary from town to town.

The vouchers can also be used nationwide, however discounts may vary from town to town.

To find out how to get an assessment or for more information call your nearest regional council or the equivalent.

Lots of local agencies such as the Stroke Foundation,  CCS Disability Action and other such groups have qualified assessors for this scheme. Enquire at your local group or Disability Resource Centre for those who do this in your area.  Shop around as some charge for an assessment to be completed and some don’t.
