Work Modification Grant

Got a job but need some help in making the work place work for you?

The Work Modification Grant is a payment which helps people with disabilities pay for workplace changes or equipment that makes it easier for them to stay in or get work.

What it can be used for:

The Modification Grant pays for things like:

  • ramps and handrails

  • visual aids

  • computer equipment

  • other changes in your workplace.

Who can get it

You may get a Modification Grant if:

  • you have a disability that’s likely to last at least six months

  • the modification will help you stay in work or get work

  • you don’t get weekly payments from ACC

  • you are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident.

  • You should also normally live in New Zealand and intend to stay here.

How to apply

Contact Work and Income to talk about your circumstances and they will explain how to apply. They will normally arrange a meeting with you and will tell you what you need to bring.

Sometimes when working in mainstream employment as disabled people we feel we have to prove ourselves ten times over to fit in or put up without equipment or in bad environments because you don’t want to rock the boat.

This type of assistance is there to help us be as productive as possible and assist in getting ahead not holding us back, so go for it. It's about getting to be equal, not special.
